A Guided oil painting session: painting and seascape with
DON
|
Stage 1: Don likes to paint on canvas and likes to prepare this canvas with a pale colour, covering the whole of the canvas. This is left to dry. Liguin is a medium he uses to help the oil paint flow, just a little as is needed.
Using a mix of blue and white he gently works the paint across the canvas, using more blue, here he is using French ultramarine, but any blue you chose will be OK. HE uses a smallish brush, about half and inch but uses smaller brushes for more detailed work.
.
Add additional colours to add a sand area
Stage 2: Now Don introduced more, a hint of yellow ochre to
the white areas which he is making into clouds. Flesh tint, a pale terracotta
like colour, is gently introduced near the area which will become the horizon.
All the time the paint is mixed gently
on the canvas to blend the colours.
For the darker areas more Ultramarine is mixed with flesh tint to form a darker shade.
Don stresses that as the sky progresses all this will change (just like the real skies!!)
When you reach this stage you need to leave it for day or 2 to let the paint settle and dry
